Notes for Doyle Crete (Spouse 1)
Doyle C. Wilkins, 79, Kamiah

Doyle Crete Wilkins of Kamiah departed this world on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. He was 79 years young.

He was born to Loyd and Rose Wilkins on April 28, 1930, at their home near Fort Misery on Winona Road. Doyle attended school until the eighth grade, after which his father needed him to help work on the ranch. His family lived in several areas between Tammany on the Snake River and Weippe. When he was a teenager, the family of eight worked together with three other families annually on a two-week cattle drive from the Snake River to the Rocky Ridge area for grazing.

After marrying Lennis Cochrell in 1952, the couple settled on the breaks of the Old Lolo and started their family. Partnering with his brother and father, they built a sawmill and continued to run cattle.

In 1962, they moved to East Kamiah. He helped build three more lumber mills in this area and worked at Carney Pole Company. In the late 1960s, he started his own business, Wilkins Automatic Transmission and Repair. His employment in the Kamiah Valley also included driving truck and pouring cement for Emmet Wilkins at Ida Lew Construction, mechanic work at Star Cedar, and manning a lookout at Brown's Creek. From 1974 to 1990, he worked on the oil fields around Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

Doyle Wilkins' volunteer work spans three decades. In the 1970s, he served on the Kamiah Fire Department. He volunteered several terms in the 1980s with the Kamiah School Board. During the late 1990s, he and his wife worked with Idaho Food Bank, helping the area's people in need.
Doyle's hobbies included operating Frontier Ceramic Shop with his wife. He always loved anything to do with the forest and animals. Later in life Doyle had found adventure in riding ATVs, and would go anywhere one would take him.

Doyle and his loving wife Lennis were married just eight months short of 50 years before Lennis passed away.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Rose Wilkins of Weiser, Idaho; wife Lennis Wilkins; and brothers Ray Wilkins of Weiser and Gerald Wilkins of Emmett, Idaho.

Doyle is survived by his four children, Wendell Wilkins, Susan Stewart and Wilda Woehler, all of Kamiah, and Fern Goodwin of Kooskia; brothers and sister, Don Wilkins of Spokane, Glenn Wilkins of Slate Creek, and Lola Wilman Chavez of Weippe; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a very caring and loving friend for life, Betty Munden; and man's best friend, Spud the dog.

Due to families being far out of town, a memorial service will be postponed until a later date.
