Hi Ron,
Well, I could possibly help! <g>
I have my pages up on GeoCities. See the address below and check out the
site. I am also a Rootsweb Donor and entitled to space which I have never
used. I like Geocities 'cause I can get in and modify when I need to. I do
have a scanner and ocr software. I don't have a search engine yet but I
just signed up and have the code to add a Java script search engine to my
site and see how it works.

I'm willing to learn! I don't know how much time this will take to do.
Perhaps you could let me know about that!

I am in Milford right now and heading back to FL tomorrow. Did some NJ
research at the Hunterdon County Library and found some good stuff on my
Kinney, Peck and Munn lines. Just up for a funeral but I get antsy when I
get this close to my roots!

Hope all is well. I am still rebuilding a house and expect that to take 2
more months to finish.

Let me know how I can help you the most........

I can refer you to someone who should have some of the answers to your inquiry
about your Jacob and Susan (Callihan) Mock line. It is one of your cousins by
the name of Don Callihan. The message below was sent to the Mock list by him
about a year ago. His e-mail address is:

callihd@ix.netcom.com

The Mock Family Historian had their annual Family History Conference last
September in Bedford Co, PA. On Sunday we had an Interdenominational Church
Service there at the Mock Meeting House located in Dunning Creek near
Pleasantville, in the West St Clair Twp. The graveyard was around the church
and was well kept and contained many well preserved old tombstones. While
there, I met and talked with an elderly gentelman who said he was 92 years old
and was a Callihan.

One of the trustees for this church and who was one of those that helped in
the
restoration of the stgructure a number of years ago was also a Callihan and he
gave a history of the church.

The photographs that Don is referring to are on the Mock Family Home Page. If
you have not found them yet, just go to the table of contents and look for
"Another Mock Meeting House" and take the links to them.

The message below is one that Don Callihan sent to this list about a year ago:

"I just looked at Todd Mock's father's pictures of the Mock meeting house. I
grew up with the notion that this was the Mock Church and cemetery. My great
grandfather and grandmother are buried here, as well as many other Callihans.
One of the daughters of Thomas Callihan, the first Callihan who settled in
Bedford county had a son, Jacob R. Callihan who married Susan Mock. I am
descended from Jacob and Susan. There were also several other Callihans
who married Mocks. Part of the Callihan clan moved to Johnstown. I was born
in Johnstown, but grew up in Michigan. I first visited the Mock meeting house
in the early 50s. My father, Martin Callihan, made a contribution toward its
restoration back in the 70s. I have some of the same pictures that Todd's
father took as well as pictures of all of the Callihan tombstones. It was a
real thrill to see these pictures on my computer screen."

I would also suggest that if you have not already done so that you go to the
Mock Archives which can be accessed from the Mock Family Home Page and do a
search for Callihan. You should bring up several messages.

If you are not already a subscriber to MOCK-GEN-L, we invite you to join us at
this free list and discussion group. Just let me know by e-mail. If there is
more detailed information that you may have on your Mock family roots, we
would
also appreciate receiving it here.

grandmother about Raymond Mock and found out a few things. His full name was
Raymond Lyle Mock and he was born October 5th 1924 ,however the birth was not
recorded till October 8th 1924. If you have any information on this man
please let me know. I appreciate any info that can be shared and will share

I don't believe we have much if anything on your Raymond Lyle Mock, since much
of our research has been in the 1800's and earlier. I have posted your message
to MOCK-GEN-L which is our free Mock List and Discussion Group in case someone
subscribed there may recognize your family. If you can also give us more
details such as the city or county where they lived in Ohio, this might also
assist someone to help you.

If you are new to Genealogy, I would recommend that you first try to locate
his
death certificate. It should tell you who his father and mother were including
his mother's maiden names and where each of them were born. The death
certificate can usually be found by writing to the County Clerk at the Court
House of the County where he died. This is usually very helpful information
that will allow you to get back at least one more generation. If you have any
other living relatives such as aunts, uncles or cousins. that could have
information that may have been lost to your family, that is also usually very
helpful.

If you can go back perhaps two generations, we can almost guarantee that you
will connect with others who are descended from your line and who are also
researching your family. If you need any extra help such as where to write
for
the certificates, please don't hesitate to let me know.

If you would like to join our free Mock List and Discussion Group, just let me
know by e-mail and I will see that you are subscribed.

The Mock Archives which are linked to the Mock Family Historian are another
very helpful resource we have but you need to get back a little further before
they do you any good.

I am responding to a request at the end of some material I had found
about the name Mock to get in touch with you if that name was in my
ancestry. My great-grandfather's name was Frank Mock and he was married
to Edith Schulz. I believe they were born in the latter 1800's, married
in the very early 1900's and had their first child around 1910. I have
just begun looking into my family tree and am having problems finding
dates and such. If subscribing to the newsletter talked about in the
Mock article would help me, please let me know or if you have any info
that might help me. If I can find further info on the Mock's I am
related to and you would like this info, you can e-mail me back at
valariewhite@yahoo.com
Thank you for your time.
*******************************
Valarie

Right off hand, I don't recognize your line. It would help if you could
tell us
in what area these people lived. Since it appears that this Frank Mock must
have died after 1910, I would recommend that you try to obtain his death
certificate which should tell you the name of both parents and where each was
born as well as the exact date of his birth and death. This can usually be
obtained by writing to the County Clerk at the Court House in the county where
he died. If you can get back one or two more generations, then it is likely
that some of us may be able to help you, and chances are good you will be able
to connect with someone else who may also be researching your family.

Your message was posted to our Mock List and Discussion Group, MOCK-GEN-L, in
case someone subscribed may recognize the marriage of Frank Mock to Edith
Schulz.

If you would like to join this free List and Discussion Group, please let me
know by e-mail and I will see that you are subscribed.

Subject: MO, Johnson Co. MOCK and MITTONG families

Ron Moore stated:

I was very interested in your message to find that descendants from this
Peter
Mock of Bedford Co, PA had settled in Johnson Co, MO. I was not aware of
this
before. Do you know who Sarah Mock's parents were?

We would be interested in getting more information on your Mock and
Mittong
families sent to this list. Beware of the old Mittong Genealogy which I

believe was written in the late 1800's or early 1900's written by a
Benjamin
Wilson because it contains some errors.

Ron,

Sarah Mock was the daughter of David and Elizabeth (Bowser) Mock, b.
abt. 1799, d. Apr. 1892. She was the granddaughter of Peter and
Elizabeth (Sample?) Mock. Sarah married John Mittong somewhere before
1820. I do not know where they were married.

I have heard of the Mittong Genealogy but haven't seen a copy of it. In
fact, I have a copy of a letter from BF Wilson to my g-g-grandmother
Mary Catherine Mittong, wife of Commodore Benton Reece, daughter of
Henry Mittong and Elizabeth Williams, granddaughter of the
aforementioned John Mittong. The letter is talking about the
Mittong/Feather connection, and mentions the book/research. As far as I
can tell, most of the information I have on the Mittong family comes
from Mary Catherine, since most of it is in her handwriting.

John Mittong and Sarah Mock had the following children:

* Henry Mittong, b abt 1820, m Elizabeth Williams Oct 28 1841 Berlin,
Somerset Co. PA, d abt 1880.

* Jacob Mittong, b abt 1820, d abt 1897
* Samuel Mittong

From what I've gathered, Henry Mittong settled in Johnson Co., MO
sometime after 1860. One of their son's (John W) obituary states that
Henry and Elizabeth Mittong moved to Marion Co. WV around 1854, where
John W "grew to manhood". It also states that John W's father was a
native of PA, but his grandfather was born in Saxony, Germany.

Henry and Elizabeth (Williams) Mittong had 9 children:

* John W Mittong, b 1843, d Nov 13 1923. (I have a copy of an obit.
if anyone is interested) He was the editor of the Holden (Johnson
Co. MO) Herald around 1889 or 1890.

* Mary Catherine Mittong, b Jan 10, 1848 Berlin, Somerset Co. PA, m.
Commodore Benton Reece Feb 5, 1873 Holden, Johnson Co. MO, d Dec
31, 1939 Harrisonville, Cass Co. MO (I have an obituary if anyone
is interested)

* Jacob Mittong
* William Mittong
* George W Mittong
* Ella Mittong
* Sarah Mittong
* Joseph Mittong
* Emily Mittong

I have more information on some, including the aforementioned letter, a
few references to the Feather family and a few obituaries if anyone is
interested.

I am sorry for a delay in answering your question. The answer is yes and no. I
am not aware of a direct way you can e-mail the library about a question and
have them reply personally to you, or you order microfilms directly from them.
If they do have this, perhaps I am not aware of it. What they do have is a
large network of Family History Centers all over the world where you can order
microfilms from Salt Lake City.

Also recently, their very popular IGI and Ancestry Files have been put on-line
for searching as well as the Card Catalog of the Salt Lake City Family HIstory
Library. These are extremely large databases. Records are not always 100%
accurate, and they tell you this in the instructions for using this database,
and should be used as a lead that needs to be documented and not final proof.

The address for this service is:

It is really a very helpful resource and I personally use it almost every day,
which is a lot handier than using it only when you go to a Family History
Center.

Dear Mr. Moore:

I am writing to let you know that I soon will be researching my husband's
Mauk ancestors. His grandfather, William Edmonds (b. 1 Feb 1910 in Poplar
Bluff, Missouri), was the third child of Beverly Nelson Edmonds and Mary
Mauk. According to William Edmond's wife, Dolly Vaden (b 6 Sep 1912 in
Poplar Bluff, Missouri), Mary Mauk's mother was named Ella Marchbank.

I have no dates for my husband's Great-Grandmother Mary Mauk nor for her
mother Ella Marchbank. I have written to Grampa Bill, but I do not know
how much he knew or now remembers (he is 89, my husband and I are 29). I
realize I cannot formulate any sort of reasonable query until I have
information and documents, but in the meantime, I wanted to let you know
that there is another Mauk researcher "on the loose."

I look forward to returning to your extensive web site once I have some
information with which to begin. Thank you very much for posting it.

Best wishes,
Jody

Right off hand, I don't recognize your line of Mauks but we have other people
subscribed to the list, MOCK-GEN-L who have Mauks in Missouri with this
spelling. I hope someone will be able to help you. Be sure to go to the Mauk
Archives becasue you may find a lot of helpful information on your family
there. By using death certificates, cemetery records and information gleaned
from other relatives, one is often able to go back an additional one or two
more generations. Each generation you go back increases the chances you will
find someone else who is also researching your line.

When you get your dates and places organized please come back and give us
another query. This message has been sent to MOCK-GEN-L in case there may be
someone monitoring who may recognize your family. If not already a member,

Not when it is in connection with ordering films. All such ordering
has to be through the Family History Centers. You can save your time
by preparing the list of what you need to do by checking what's
available. There will be notes in various films or books indicating
they are not circulated to Family History Centers, saving your grief

Hi, I am related to the Mauks from Olive Hill, Ky. (Elliott County). My
name is Judy Ellen Mauk. My father was Robert Mauk, deceased in 5/93. He
was one of the fifteen children of Fred and Amanda Jane (Holbrook) Mauk.
His parents were Peter and Ellen Mauk. I don't know anything about Peter and
Ellen's other children. I am very interested in finding out. I visit
Elliott County and the relatives that still live there. There are two very
old graveyards there - one on my grandfather's homestead and one that dates
back to the 1700's on what is called the "Old Mauk Place". I am interested
in learning more. Thanks for your hard work and sharing all of your

Davidson Co., which is approx. 20 miles. There are numerous cemeteries
in the Davidson Co. area. And a trip to the Court House in Salisbury,
Rowan Co., NC approx. 18 miles south-south east of Mocksville, NC.

Denver,
I have heard there is a very good genealogy room at the Concord
(Cabarrus Co.) NC library but the hours/days are not daily. I would
suggest calling ahead of time. I was through there last year and
arrived just before the genealogy room closed (4 PM). Good luck on
your trip.

Subject: Winfield "Scott" Mock b.1852 Erie, PA

Hello All,

I was very excited to discover your group on the Net. This is my first
email to this group. I hope I can provide some information some of you may
be missing, and that someone here will be able to help me as well. Much of
my family's genealogy records disappeared at the time of my grandmother's
death (many years ago). I am hoping to reassemble these records and fill in
the gaps.

My great-great-great-grandfather was Winfield "Scott" Mock of Erie, PA (b.
1852). He is the earliest Mock-relative I can absolutely/directly trace
back-to, from myself. He was named after Winfield Scott (General in
Mex-American War). He went by the name of Scott throughout his entire life.
I am hoping he will be a link that someone else here can connect to.

W. "Scott" Mock had 2 sons (in Erie PA). The first was William "Harry" Mock
(who always went by Harry, m. Catherine who went by "Kit", had one daughter
Bonita Mock Brown b. 1905), and Thomas "Oscar" Mock (who always went by
Oscar.... an odd family tradition?)

T. "Oscar" Mock married Aura Houpt/Haupt (m. feb 19, 1902, Aura: b. April 8,
1884, 7th child of Henry H. Haupt (b. May 29, 1852, d. Mar 25, 1911,
Somerset PA) & Mary E. Hoover (b. Oct 27, 1858, d. Feb 6, 1905) - if others
are interested in these Haupt's of PA, I have more details/names/dates back
through Valentine Haupt b. 1745, d. March 16, 1814, emmigrated from Germany
1754, elder in old Lehigh Lutheran Church, Berks/Northampton Counties, PA).

Thomas Henry Mock (actually went by "Thomas", b. 1903) was T. "Oscar" Mock &
Aura Haupt's only child. They left Erie PA, and moved to California about
1918. (Thomas Henry was my grandfather).

As far as origins in this country, we are descendants of a Peter Mock. My
grandmother's research had an under-age Peter landing in Baltimore (from
Germany) in 1754 with his three older brothers (the three brothers were old
enough to be listed on the ship's passenger list, Peter was not). "Our"
Peter shows up in the 1790 US census, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. This
is the extent to which we can (reliably?) remember what my grandmother had
documented. I have noticed a reference to a Peter Mock arriving in Maryland
in 1752 in a recent email to the list, could this be the same Peter Mock?

Please let me know if anyone out there can provide further links to 'my'
Winfield Scott Mock (or to Peter Mock?). I am looking forward to
corresponding with you all.

Thank You,
Cheryl Mock

Subject: Re: Mauk Family from Missouri

My father Samuel Frederick Mauk was born in West
Plains, MO in 1900. His parents were Charles
Frederick and Florence (Staggs) of MO and AR.
Charles had a brother named Wm. as well as
several other siblings.

My father's grandparents were James Jackson Mauk
and Miriam (Glaze) of WVA and OH, later IL.
Still later, I think Miriam lived in MO (Adrian
or Audrian Co.?) with her son James, brother of
Charles F. and Wm. Some of Charles Frederick's
brothers were said to live in AR.

James Jackson's ancestors are documented in the
book on Frederick George Mauk's family and in
files on the Mock site.

Any possible connection?

Monra

Subject: Va And Md Mack/Mock.

Hello all,
Can any one tell me the main names of the Mack/Mock families who lived in
Va then Md? My William must have came from one of these families because of
the the inter marriages between the Mack, Morrison and Myers. The Morrison
and Myers families lived in Va and Md as well.
Thank you.
Viola.

Ron,

I took some time and started a sample of this project. It is located at
http://mockfamilyhistorianarchive.webjump.com

I am working on getting a java script search engine written that will search
documents. The search engine I have on the site now will only work if I
find a service provider that offers Front Page extensions. When we get our
new service set up it will allow for Front Page extensions. My nephew and
his friends are working on it and should have it up soon.

I would be willing to take on the project for the Mock Family Historian. I
have plenty of time on my hands, and I have plenty of help too.

Please check out the above site. Let me know who you pick to work on the
project. If not me, then maybe I can help who ever.

Jeff
