The funeral will be Feb. 20 for Vernon C. Akins of Eugene, who died Feb. 12 of cancer. He was 90.
Akins was born April 22, 1911, in Linden, Idaho, to Earl and Maggie Brown Akins. He married Margery Crawford in Lewiston, Idaho, on May 29, 1943.
He grew up and attended schools in Orofino, Idaho. Akins did survey work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He moved to the Lane County area in 1958.
Akins worked as an office manager for three road construction companies for more than 25 years. He enjoyed jazz, dancing and playing the banjo. He especially enjoyed cars and owned 45 of them in his lifetime.
Akins was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Traditional Jazz Society of Oregon.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas of Eugene; a daughter, Diane Masuo of Portland; a sister, Agnes Wittman of Lewiston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Wednesday's service will be at 11 a.m. at Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Hospice.

She was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Portland to Byron and Mabel Farnsworth Crawford. She married Vernon Akins on May 29, 1943, in Lewiston, Idaho. He died Feb. 12, 2002.
Akins attended Los Angeles public schools. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Thomas of Eugene; a daughter, Diane Masuo of Portland; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth, died previously.
Remembrances to the Lane Community College Nursing Program scholarship fund.
