Sam C. Dygert, 80, formerly of Clarkston, Wash., went to be with the Lord July 3, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He suffered from Parkinson's disease for many years.
He was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Moscow, Idaho, to Frank and Sadie Dygert. At the age of 17 he went into the Navy and spent 3 1/2 years sailing around the world on a goodwill tour. After the Navy he attended Bible college, where he met his life long love of 55 years, Phyllis Yates. He lived in Clarkston and worked for Potlatch Corp. as a carpenter for 38 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Alamogordo with his wife to be closer to their two sons, Daniel and Paul. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of the family home; sons Dan and Paul, of Alamogordo; daughters Ruth Felchlin, of Spokane, Wash., and Grace Blue, of Tooele, Utah; fifteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Sam was a man of prayer and an accomplished carpenter, and he loved his sheltie.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Monte Vista Cemetery with Pastor Howell Scott officiating.
The Dygert family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
