Dale Arthur Elza, 73, a resident of Whitmer, went to Heaven to be with his daughters and family Wednesday evening, Jan. 25, 2012, while helping his family at Teter Farms in East Dailey, doing what he loved best, farming.
He was born on April 14, 1938, at Whitmer, a son of the late Joseph Howard and Bertha Lamb Elza.
On March 25, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Snyder Elza, who survives at Whitmer.
Also surviving are two daughters, Diana Lynn and husband, Samuel Shoemaker, of Thomas and Deborah Kay Cooper and companion, Paul Keefover, of Dryfork; two sons, Michael Dale Elza of Elkins and Randall Curtis Elza of Fairmont; and four sisters, Betty Jo Vance, Wilma Ruth VanDevander, Linda Lou Dudley and Patricia Gae Armentrout, all of Whitmer. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Zachary Dale and Natasha Danielle Teter, Megan Nicole Sypolt, Samuel Dillon Shoemaker, Christopher Andrew and Caitlyn Alexandra Cooper; and two great-grandchildren, Brookelynne Saige and Layne Christopher Cooper. A sister in law, Shirley Eye and husband, John; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two daughters, Donna Gwynn Elza-Teter and infant, Lisa Ruth Elza; one brother, Bobby Elwood Elza; brother-in-law, Guy Vance; and sister-in-law, Genivee Conrad Hughes.
Dale was a graduate of Harman High School with the class of 1957. He was owner and operator of Elza Farms, a retired union carpenter having been a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local No. 614, a member of the Randolph County Farm Bureau, a veteran of the United States Army and served in the West Virginia Army Reserves for more than six years. He was a member of the Whitmer Church of God. Mr. Elza was an avid farmer and dedicated his life to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Sunday, Jan. 29, Mr. Elza will be moved to the Whitmer Church of God where friends may call from noon until 2 .m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Eli Hostettler and Pastor John Demorest will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hills Cemetery at Whitmer, where presentation of the American flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion of Elkins.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zachary and Natasha Teter Fund, in care of Grant County Bank, Harman, WV, 26270.
