Notes for Ethel Alice Eby
MRS. ZAN JORDAN, DAUGHTER OF FRASER PIONEERS, SUCCUMBS

Mrs. Zan (Ethel) Jordan, 76, Orofino, a daughter of Clearwater County pioneers, died at 10:30 last night at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Mrs. Jordan was born July 17, 1895, in the Fraser area, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eby, who homesteaded near Fraser area.   Her grandparents came to the area when Orofino had one Indian home and all supplies had to be freighted from Kendrick, over the hill to Ahsahka and across the ferries to Weippe and Pierce.

She attended the Cottonwood school near Fraser.

She met her future husband, Zan Jordan, when she was 15.   They were married at Lewiston Nov. 5, 1912.   He survives her at their Orofino home.

The Jordans moved to Orofino in 1922, where Mrs. Jordan resided until her death.

For many years they operated their own business, Zan's, on the Lewis-Clark Highway.

Survivors besides her husband include a daughter, Mrs. Zella Davis and a son, Harold Jordan.

Funeral arrangments are pending at Gilbert's Funeral Chapel, Orofino.

495I remember Zan. He had a Bar/Night club on the river road between Lewiston, Idaho and Kamiah, Idaho. I went there frequently with my mother, Arleen Alice Pitts, and Brannon Guy Jordan (Zan is his Uncle) before and after they were married. Zan used to pick me up all the time and dance the slow songs with me. I was very fond of him. As a tourist attraction, he had a live couger tethered to a rope and sometimes in a cage. I always felt so bad for the animal but Van was fond of it and I believe it was treated well. Even so, I know it's life had to be unbearably sad.
