458Notes for John Carter:
This individual was reportedly killed by Quantrill's bushwackers. His brother in law Hugh Brown was also killed in this way, and probably his brother Andrew Carter as well, all within an 18-month period. In fact, the two Carter brothers were killed within the same three-week period (John on February 1 and Andrew on February 20, 1862). It appears that the Carters were on the Union side, as Rolla Carter enlisted in the Missouri militia on July 31, 1862, and was discharged as exempt due to disability (unspecified) on October 27, 1862.89* Birth: 27 MAR 1836 1
