William Hite (ca. 1786-1857) of Berkeley County, West Virginia
William Hite, born ca. 1786 in Pennsylvania, married Sarah Zeckman in 1818 in Berkeley County, West Virginia. He fathered between seven and ten children, at least two of whom were born before his marriage to Sarah, so he must have married twice. There was a William Hite who married Sally Houck in 1812 in Berkeley county and some researchers think it is this William, but that conclusion is problematic. Sally Houck's mother, Margaret Houck, named Sally Hite in her 1819 will as though she was still alive, so that raises the possibility of two William Hites in Berkeley County. William Hite, the husband of Sarah Zeckman, died ca. 1857. It is possible that this William (or the one who married Sally Houck if they are not the same man) is the John William Heyd baptized in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania in 1789, son of John Georg Heyd and Magdalena Sahler. At this stage, there is no proof.
