Not sure if this helps because my knowledge of Carpers is restricted mainly to the Virginias, but...A Martin Luther Carper married Jane Pratt in 1868 they moved to Audubon Co., IO. He moved further west in 1877 but had 7 children. One of which was named Ralph. If you think this might be your Ralph let me know and I'll see if I can get more information for you.”

118Martin Luther, b 26 September 1842, m October 1868 Jane Pratt, daughter of Lewis and Ellen Pratt. Martin Luther moved to Audubon Co., IO where he farmed and raised stock in Melville Township until 1877 when the family moved west. Their children were: Flora, Anna, Ralph, Charles, John, Samuel, and Alice Mary.
