Notes for Mary Elizabeth “Lisa” Carper
Mary Elizabeth Carper Pratt:  Mt. Pleasant News, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Sat. Oct. 15, 1921, p. 3:
In the death of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pratt, which took place on Saturday, October 8, 1921, this section of Iowa lost one of its best and most respected residents.  She was a daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Hite) Carper and was born in Berkerly (sic), Va,  Wednesday, February 13, 1850.  She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Ernst where she had made her home the past ten years where she had a pleasant home, and all of the comforts that loving hearts and hands could give her.  She was always a self-sacrificing, faithful and loving mother and will be sadly missed in the home where she has been so long doing so many kindly deeds that only a mother knows how to do. She was a member of The Methodist Church but, owing to delicate health the last few years, could not attend very much but tried to live a good life by doing for others.  She was married to John M. Pratt of Trenton, Iowa Thursday, April 18, 1867.  He preceded her in death Friday, January 14, 1910.  Their union was blessed with eight children.  Four of them, George, Mary, Samuel and Roy passed away when quite young.  Those remaining with twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren are Dr. Evalyn Young and Mrs. Lee Ernst, Mt Pleasant, Iowa, Mrs. Guy Jeffrey, Davenport, Iowa, Mr. Howard Pratt of Salt Lake City, Utah. They mourn the loss of one of the best mothers on earth.  Largely attended funeral services were held at Methodist Church, Trenton on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. A short service was held at the home before.
