Notes for Morgan Boone
The log cabin of Morgon Boone, Grandson of Daniel Boone, has been restored and placed in PIONEER LAND in the Kansas City Museum. Morgon Boone JR, as well as several of his children, was born in this cabin. As a boy Morgon JR watched the wagon trains in Westport leaving for the long trek West. In the historic Boone trading post of his cousin, Albert Gallatin Boone, (son of Jesse Bryan Boone) he saw the wagon masters paying in gold their men who had just returned from the plains. During the summer months he heard the lowing of the oxen when there were from 50 to 100 wagons camping near Westport. It is not surprising that in 1868, when he was only 17 years old, he drove a wagon team to a Western fort for his cousin Amazon Hays who was a trader. For a number of years he was engaged in freighting in the Indian Territory and Texas. In 1874 he married and took his bride to the log cabin built by his father, where later, several of his children were born.
In 1891 Morgon JR and cousin Napoleon Boone decided to built identical houses. Nepoleon built his home at 8226 Wornall Road, and Morgon JR built his home at 9022 Holmes Street near the old log cabin. When these homes were built, they were surrounded by well tilled farms and commodious barnes, for both men were prosperous farmers. The Morgon Boone house was torn down in 1959 or 1960. The Napleon Boone house, now surrounded by business houses, will be torn down soon to make way for modern progress.
