128Stephen Carter, eldest son of Rolla and Elizabeth Dorrell Carter, married Sarah Richard and had 10 children: Lillie, Frank, Lucy, Doss, Jess, Pearl, Gertrude, Virgie, Leota, and Elsie. In addition to farming, he owned and operated the general store called "Plano" - the ruins of the old fieldstone building can still be seen at the corner where you turn up Farm Road 45 to get to Bois d'Arc and Prospect. He had black hair and dark eyes.

Sarah M. Richard was the daughter of Daniel and Rebecca (Groves) Richard. They moved from Illinois to Missouri in the late 1860s. She married Stephen Carter and had 10 children. I believe she may have actually been born closer to 1856 than 1852, the date stated on her tombstone and death certificate.
