Notes for Sarah Pritchard
6Sarah Pritchard, a daughter of Thomas and Rachel (Davis) Pritchard, was born about 1762 in Loudon County VA. She married John Smarr about 1788. John, a son of Andrew and Elishe Smaw, was born in Cameron Parish, Loudoun County VA and died before June 08, 1795 in Loudoun County.
Sarah married Cornelius Skinner Jr. August 17, 1799 in Loudoun County. A son of Cornelius Skinner, he was born about 1766 in Loudoun County and died there about 1814. Cornelius Skinners estate was appraised by Order of the Court April 12, 1814 and gives Sarah Skinner as his administratrix - Loudoun County Will Book L, p. 10.
John Smarr's will names sixteen children as well as Thomas, the seventeenth, who was born not long before Johns death. Names of children appearing in his will who received one shilling sterling: son Peril: son Andrew; son George, daughter Elizabeth, daughter Ann; son Charles; son Samuel; son Ruben. To daughter Mary Hampton, he gave 21 pounds ten shillings to be equally divided among her children. To daughter Jane Weadon, 21 pounds ten shilling to be equally divided among her children. To daughter Chloe More twenty pounds ten shillings; to daughter Nancy Williamson eight pounds ten shillings to be divided among her children after her death; to son John Smarr 20 shillings; to daughter Sarah Tilman 20 shillings: to daughter Fanny 32 pounds for maintenance of schooling until she marries or reaches the age of 2l. The remainder of estate to "my beloved wife Sarah Smarr and the under named children begotton of my body vix. Robert, Mary Hampton. Cloe, Nancy and Fanny." Robert and Sarah were sole Executors. June 9, 1794.
The sale of his goods recorded in Will Book F. p. 24 lists ten Negro slaves: Minnie, Lott. Torn, Joseph, Abraham, Ben, Jonas, Rose, Will and Ellen. The family Bible and Testaments were bought by John Pritchard, who married Ann Smarr.

John Smarr, son of Andrew and Elishe Smaw, was married at leat once beofre he married Sarah Pritchard, He married (1) Sarah Pearl, daughter of William Pearl of Fauquier County[, Virginia]. Seh was still living May 24, 1785 when her father made his will. He married (2) Sarah Pritchard before1789, daughter of Thomas Pritchard and Rachel Davis. He died between Jun 9, 1794, when he sighned his will, and June 8, 1795, when the will was recorded at Leesburg, Loudoun County[, Virginia].
The spelling of the name Smaw was changed to Smarr in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties by court clerks; all family court records are signed with their mark.8
