Notes for John Gray
8John Gray was a Revolutionary War Veteran who enlisted in his home state of Virginia and served under his older brother Capt. David Gray. He fought at Yorktown, and for the service he rendered there was granted a pension and 200 acres of land in Virginia. His original headstone bears this epitaph:
“Remember friends as you pass by
As you are now, so once was I
As I am now so you must be
Prepare for death and follow me.”
