Hello Craig,

I was looking at what you have posted on the World Connect Project on descendants of Jacob Alt of Frederick Co., Maryland.
I see you are using what I sent you on the family, which is fine. I see you are also using the erroneous information from the LDS records about some of the children of Jacob and Amerillis Alt being born in Montgomery Co., PA. There is absolutely no proof that Jacob Alt ever went back to Pennsylvania after he settled in Frederick Co., Maryland by 1750. I have him on some deeds and warrants in Frederick Co. dated 1753, 1754, 1761, 1762, and 1763 and then of course he died in 1770 in Frederick Co.

Another bit of false information is that a Johannes Michael Alt was Jacob's father. This I'm afraid was made up by a well meaning researcher, who thought she was interpreting the facts right, but was wrong. There was no such person as Johannes Michael Alt in the records. An assumption was made that Johannes Alt, age 40, who arrived in1738, was the same as John Michel Ott or Oat, who with Jacob Ott/Oat arrived in Philadelphia in 1733. The story of three brothers, Johannes Michael, Valentin, and Jacob Alt first coming to America in 1733, and two of them returning to Switzerland and coming to America again in 1738 is not based on fact.
Johannes Alt who came to America in1738 is not the same man as Michael Alt who was granted land in Hampshire Co. VA in 1773.
