According to Cockayne's "Complete Peerage", He supported Prince Louis of France (later King Louis VIII - RIN 3161) in his bid fot the throne of England until the final Batle of Lincoln in 1217 where he was captured. In 1224 he was in the service of King Henry III in Poitou. He took part in the siege of Bedford Castle, witnessed the promulgation of the Forest Charter 1224//5, accompanied Henry III to France in 1230, and attested the confirmation of the Magna Charta at Winchester in 1237. In 1242/3
his lands were siezed by the king for failiure to participate in his expedition to France. He went on a pilgrimage to Santiago in 1252. At various times he served the King in Scotland and Wales. He was in attendance at the Council of Oxford. He seems to have taken no part in the Barons' War and was reputed to be loyal.
