Notes for Havoise
Notes:
Weis' "Ancestral Roots . . ." (214:24) states that she is said to have been the countess of Guincamp, which , as stated in Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" [article on Richmond] is doubtful. Also mentioned (214A:24), (227:24).
Notes for Stephen I (Spouse 1)
Notes:
Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (119:26), (214:24), (214A:24), (227:24), identifies him as count of Brittany and the holder of the honour of Richmond, in England.
From Cokayne's "Complete Peerage", in the article on Richmond, we learn that Stephen was the youngest of EUDES' eight legitimate sons (His older brothers being Geoffrey Boterel I, Brian, Alain "the red", Alain "the black", William, Robert, and Richard). There is no express evidence that Stephen was the son of ORGUEN/ AGNES, and he may have been the issue
of a second [i.e. an unknown] marriage. He succeeded his oldest brother, Geoffrey (or possibly Geoffrey's son, Conan) in his Breton lands and another brother, Alan "the black" in the honor of Richmond in England, thus uniting all the possessions of the
family, but he appears to have been out of the possession of the honor of Richmond for a time during the reign of King William II. In 1101, he was a surety for KING HENRY I (RIN 789) for the observance of an alliance with Robert II, Count of Flanders. 1. Alain Le_Noir
