Notes for Padarn Beisrudd
Notes:
Bartrum's "Welsh Genealogies". For continuation of the lineage back to the legendary Beli Mawr, see Bartrum's "Early Welsh Genealogical Tracts". The name means "Paternus of the red cloak". This most likely would refer to the cloak of a Roman official. In 383, MAGNUS MAXIMUS (RIN 5828), the highest ranking representative of the Empire departed Britain with his army. It is likeley that he gave Padarn the authority he would need to try to secure the borders of Britannia.
