The only attempt I know to guess a meaning for this passage is in Molly Miller's article "Eanfrith's Pictish son" in "Northern History" vol. XIV (1978), pp. 47-66. She suggested that:
"... Fer map Confer ipse est uero olitauc ..." should perhaps be read as:
"... Fer map Con. Fer ipse est Uerb. Clitauc ..." This emendation only changes two letters and some spacing, but is of
course only a conjecture.
