My double great granddad was Amos Pritchard, the youngest son of Thomas and Mary Moody. He was born in Preston Com VA about 1837, married Clarinda Mitchell on Dec. 21, 1848 at Cabin Run, VA and died in Cumberland, MD on June 12, 1863 from Typhoid while serving in the Union Army.

Hi Cousin!
Thank you for your information, I have Amos and Clarinda in my database but didn't have the information on when/where Amos died, I do have him serving in Co. D. 14th WV. I have Clarinda's parents as Nathaniel and Hannah Mitchell. Is this correct? Do you have any information on Hannah?
Notes for Clarinda (Spouse 1)

Hi again, Mike.
The beginning of my journey into genealogy began with just a few facts that my aunt gave me. There were no sources, just stuff. She said that her dads mother was Lizetta Prichard...born Feb 14, 1850 and died in 1891, in WV. Lizetta's parents were Annas Pritchard 1830-1865 and Luciend Mitchell who died in 1908.
I began my search at Sutro Library in SF. I came across "The History of Ritchie County", in which the last line about the offspring of Thomas Pritchard said "Amos lost his life in the Civil War." The dates were right...was this Amos my "Annas"? I sent for his records and reaped a gold mine.
I received a copy of the letter from his captain to his wife stating that he was very sick with "fever" Clarinda filed for a widows pension on 15 Aug 1865, which was signed by Nathaniel S. and Martha C. Mitchell. In it she states that Amos D. Pritchard was a private in Company G, 14th regiment of WV Vol. Infantry and he died at Cumberland, MD of Typhoid Fever on 12 June 1863, She asid they were married at Cabin Run, WV by Henderson, a minister, on 21 December 1848.
Finally she named the four children residing with her at horseneck, WV as Nancy L. Pritchard, 15, Mary L Pritchard, 13, Percis E. Pritchard, 6, and Lucinda J. Pitchard, 3.
On another document she again swears to the above and gives her "under 16" children as Mary Louisa Sept 18, 1851
Purses Ellen Sept. 19, 1859
Lucinda Jane Oct 7, 1861
She claims to be now living at Willow Island, Pleasants Co., WV and her witnesses are George Brant of White Oaks, Wood County and Nancy Jane Pritchard of Jefferson Township, Pleasants Co., WV. Statements from the midwives that delivered these children are witnessed by George Pritchard, Justice of the Peace.
Finally, when Clarinda died in 1910, her youngest daughter, Lucinda Pritchard applied for reimbursement for her expenses for taking care of her mother in her last days. Clarinda died of consumption in Spencer, WV.
Much of the rest of my information I got from the census and from marriage and birth and death books of Roane County WV.

I found Clarinda, Percis and Lucinda living with the Elias Pritchard family in Roane County in 1880.
Finally, I suspected that Nathaniel and Martha were her parents but could never prove it. I don't have a Hannah. Where did you find her? Keep in touch.
