436Capt. James CALLAWAY was buried in Montgomery County, Missouri. He was born on 13 Sep 1783 in Fayette County, Kentucky. He married Nancy HOWELL, daughter of Francis HOWELL and Susannah Stone, on 9 May 1805 in Saint Charles County, Missouri. He died on 7 Mar 1815 in Loutre Creek, Montgomery County, Missouri, at age 31. In the St. Charles District of Missouri he held several offices (such as deputy sheriff and tax collector), organized a group of Missouri Rangers, and served as their captain in the War of 1812, which for them consisted mostly of fighting Indians. He was killed in such a fight near the end of the war, at Loutre Creek. Five years later the newly formed Callaway County, Missouri was named for him. They had two sons and one daughter.
