I'll include Christian's note too:Sent to Cheryl House by Robert J. Rugaber in 2/1999. "Christian went into the Army August 1864. I have a copy of his volunteer enlistment. Discharged in May 31,1865. He was five feet three inches high, light complexion with dark eyes & dark hair. He was listed as a farmer. He was 35 years of age. No weight listed."

Christian Rukgaber was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, on September 27, 1825. He came to America at the age of 26 and located at Hazelton, Penna. where he was engaged as a coal digger. He married Mary Gottlieben Pfluger in the year 1852, in Hazelton, to whom were born five boys and five girls viz: Henry C. was born August 21, 1853 and died in Washington state, December 17,1927, aged 74 years. J. Frederick, born June 16, 1855; Minnie M., born March 1, 1857 and died in Galeton, Pa. on June 24, 1937, aged 80 year . She was married to Charles N.Rawson; Christian G. was born April 22, 1859 and died in Galeton,Pa., May 23,1928, aged 69 years; Sophia B. was born Sept. 8, 1861, who married Cyrus J. Quick, and died September 4, 1926 in Miami,Florida, aged 65 years; Pauline C. was born May9, 1863, was married to Fred Hegmann, and died April 11, 1934 near Hastings. NY, aged 70 years; G. Washington, was born April 26, 1865 and died in Hornell, NY Nov. 27, 1899, aged 34 years; Gottlieben M. was born September 23, 1868, who married John Mckay; John was born Oct. 3, 1871 and Mary M. was born Dec. 30, 1873 and married
Fred Daggett.
Christian Rukgaber moved to Germania,Pa. in 1857 where he cleared and improved a farm. He was one of the pioneers of Germania and took an active part in building the first public highways in that vicinity.
He enlisted on August 20, 1864 in Company D., 207th Regiment of Penn. Volunteer and participated in the Battles of Fort Steadman, Hatcher's Run, Petersburg, Stoney Creek and other minor engagements, and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1865. He died in Germania,Pa. on January 23, 1885, aged 59 years. Mrs. Christian Rukgaber was born in Wurtemburg, Germany on January 16, 1832 and died in Germania,Pa. on July 25, 1887 aged 55 years.
In a letter sent to Cheryl House by John W. Rugaber he lists the inscription on Great Grandfather's monument (Christian):

The following was sent to RosaRuth Fuller in 1987: a copy of Christian's Citizenship
Be it remembered, That at a Court of Common Pleas for the County of Potter, held at the Borough of Coudersport, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in the United States of America, on the twenty-first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight. Christian Rukgaber a native of Wirtemburg exhibited a petition praying to be admitted to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, and it appearing to the said Court that he had declared on Oath before The Clerk of the Superior Court of the City of New York on the 16th day of November A. D. 1852 that it was bona fide his intention to become a Citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to the King of Wirtemburg of whom he was at that time a subject; and the said Christian Rukgaber having on his solemn oath declared, and also made proof thereof agreeably to law, to the satisfaction of the Court, that he had resided one year and upwards within the State of Pennsylvania; and within the United States of America upwards of five years immediately preceding his application; and that during that time he had behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same; and having declared on his solemn oath before the said Court, that he would support the Constitution of the United States, and that he did absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentiate, state, and sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly the King of Wirtemburg of whom he was before a subject: and having in all respects complied with the laws in regard to Naturalization, thereupon the Court admitted the said
Christian Rukgaber to become a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, and ordered all the proceedings aforesaid to be recorded by the Prothonotary of the said Court, which is done accordingly.
