There have been those who have said that John A. Porter was born in 1856 ... but, according to the 1880 Pendleton Co., census, a John A. Porter, married to a Martha E. Porter, [and living with children, Maud 7 - Hugh - 4 and Charley - 2] was 32 years old. In the 1900 census John was 52. That would mean he was born about 1848. -- [ccs]
