Charles Byers Lawson was born and raised in Rockingham County, Virginia. Following the death of his parents, Charles sold the family farm and on March 11, 1950, Charles married Margie Zelda Long (b.1924) of Mt. Solon, Virginia. Charles and Zelda moved to the City of Harrisonburg where they had two daughters, Sharon Ann Lawson and Karen Jane Lawson. Charles and Zelda remained in Harrisonburg their entire lives. Charles Byers was an electrician by trade and spent the main part of his career as the Purchasing Manager for Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative. He retired from SVEC in 1980 yet he remained active maintaining a part time job with Marvel Poultry (now known as Rocco Enterprises, Inc.) until the early 1990's.
