A funeral liturgy was held yesterday for 49-year Concord resident Adrian F. Hurst, who died July 20. A native of Eureka and former resident of Oakland, he was 85 years of age.
Mr. Hurst owned and operated the El Monte Variety Store in Concord for 22 years. After retiring, he worked for many years for Valco Drug. He was president of the El Monte Merchants Association; member and officer of the Concord Lions Club and later helped organize and was charter president of Clayton Valley Lions Club; had perfect attendance at Lions Club meetings for 40 years; was Zone chairman and deputy district governor for Zone 4C-3; helped organize the Sea Scout ship sponsored by the Clayton Valley Lions Club; was a charter member and charter trustee of Concord Elks Lodge #1994; was charter member and charter treasurer of Concord Knights of Columbus, Council #6038. Mr. Hurst served on many committees and projects and donated many hours helping numerous organizations, including his church, St. Agnes, where he had been active since the early stages of the church’s formation.
Mr. Hurst was the husband of Dorothy Hurst of Concord. They had been married for 63 years. He was the father of Jeanne Stohon of Concord and Nancy Brueheim of Martinez; brother of Don Hurst of Tehachapi and Kathryn Campbell of Redding. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Wednesday’s service was at St. Agnes Church in Concord. Burial was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette. Arrangements under the direction of Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel.
