8 Jacob Nestor was a Revolutionary soldier in the Berks County, Pennsylvania Militia from 1777 to March 10, 1780 as a private First Class in Captain Ferdinand Ritter’s Eighth Company, Third Battalion. It is believed by some descendants that Jacob was eight years old at the time arrived in America; others believe he was twelve. The name Nester was pronounced 'Neshter' in the early days in Berks County, Pennsylvania. This is characteristic of the Romansch dialect of German, found in southern Germany and eastern Switzerland. The name Nester today is common in the district of Heilbronn, not far from Karlsruhe, in Bockingen and in Grankenbach (two suburbs of Heilbronn), in Kochendorf, Neckarsulm, Obereisesheim, and in the districts of Rottweil and Horb.
. . . Jacob Nester was a farmer, millwright, carpenter, shoemaker, and Lutheran minister. The original name, Nestler, was altered twice by this line. Although he appears as Jacob nester in Revolutionary records, his son, George, adopted the spelling Nestor, which his descendants kept. The Campbell Cemetery is a part of the original Nestorville homestead. The space was set aside by Jacob for the use of the Nestor and Hovatter families. Jacob and Mary are buried there along with all but two of their children.
