35Military Service: Revolutionary Army
Note: 1) “Of his life previous to the time he entered the army, nothing is known. From his pension record on file in the Bureau of Pensions, Washington, D.C., we learn that in 1775 he served three months as a substitute for his father in the Revolutionary Army, enlisting as a private from the Camden District on the Congaree River, S.C. Following this service he gave three months the next year (1776), and from that time up to the year 1783 he served in various capacities. For this service he made application for a pension on 29 Sept., 1832, which pension was granted him.”
