Myrtle Powell, 100, Idaho Pioneer

A graveside service for Myrtle Powell, who turned 100 earlier this month, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Teaken Cemetery near Cavendish.

The Rev. Wayne L. Beard of the American Missionary Fellowship at Kamiah will officiate.

The service will be preceded by viewing from noon to 7 p.m. today at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston.

She died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston of causes related to age. She had recently suffered a bout with pneumonia.

She was born Nov. 11, 1895, at Teakean, Idaho, one of eight children of William L. and Jennie B. Holladay Brown. She went to school at Teakean, where she met Elmer Powell.

They were married in 1914 at Spokane.

They homesteaded for six years on the Salmon River, then moved to Ahsahka and in 1922 to Teakean. He died in 1938.

In recent years she divided her time between the Teakean and Lewiston homes of her daughters.

She was an expert quilter and estimated she made more than 500 before cutting back on her sewing about three years ago.

Survivers include two daughters, Opal VanAirsdale of Teakean and Crystal Baysinger of Lewiston; two sisters, Eunice Mathews and Opal Goin, both of Port Angeles, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-garandchildren; 49 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Agnes Powell and Gay Choate; and by three sisters, two brothers, a grandson and great-granddaughter.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, in care of Nancy Shell, 524 Linden Drive, Lewiston, or the American Cancer Society, in care of Georginia LaRocque, 1027 Ninth Ave., Lewiston.
