Notes for James L. “Jimmie” Snyder
James L. Snyder
On Friday, April 25, 2014, this world said goodbye to a wonderful dad, grandpa, husband and friend. James Leroy Snyder, born Sept. 24, 1948, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center from complications of pneumonia. His laughter and guidance will be dearly missed.
Jim was born to Emil and Mildred Snyder as the fourth of five children. He enjoyed his childhood of raising cows and riding horses in the outskirts of Kamiah. He graduated from Kamiah High School in 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army for the Vietnam War but was called back home to help his ailing father run the cattle ranch. It was the beginning of a lifetime passion for cattle ranching.
In 1972, he married Helena Wassmuth of Greencreek. They became the proud parents of four children. Jim spent most of his years teaching his children about his two passions in life: logging and raising cattle. His three sons continue his dream of logging the great forests of Idaho, and all four children use the lessons he taught them about the cattle industry for their own cattle operations. When Jim wasn't behind the wheel of his logging truck or watching his herd, he enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Wayne Snyder.
He is survived by his children, David of Kamiah, John of Kamiah, Paul (Darra) of Kamiah and Lisa Anderson (William) of Culdesac. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by his sister-in-law, Gail Snyder; and his three sisters, Claudia Mullaley, Carol Farley and Janet Hendren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kamiah Cemetery on State Highway 164 near the city limits of Kamiah. Gifts of remembrance can be made to the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation, 400 Mercer St., Ste. 202, Seattle, WA 98109, so others who struggle from this disease can continue Jim's fight against it.
