Notes for William Dunlap
William Dunlap
A native of the north of Ireland, he served his apprenticeship with William Bradford in Philadelphia. After printing in Lancaster, he returned to the city in 1757, and married a relation of Mrs. Benjamin Franklin. He ran a printing house and book store in Market Street until 1765/6 when he sold off his stock and transferred management of the printing house to his nephew John. Traveling to England, he obtained ordination in the church of England and, returning to the colonies, became a rector at a church in Virginia.
