ELYRIA -- Edith Kerns (nee Jordan), 95, of Elyria, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at her residence, following a brief illness.

She was born in Elkins, W.Va., on Feb. 17, 1912, and had resided in Elyria for many years.

She enjoyed caring for her dogs, cooking, canning food, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Robert C. Kerns; sons Gerald Gordon of Collins and Kenneth Gordon of Pennsylvania; sisters Louise, Kaye, Ruth Ann and Zula ''Sue;'' nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, the Rev. James Gordon; daughter, Helen Gordon: brothers Dale, Richard and Donald; sisters Opal and Ruby; and her parents Thadeus and Alice (nee Teter) Jordan.

Friends may call Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Township. Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the North Murray Ridge Cemetery, Elyria.

Note: Elyria is in Lorain Co. Ohio.
Edith's first husband was Preston Lee Gordon, son of George L.

He was born in Elkins, W. Va. on Jan. 20, 1935, and had resided in Elyria for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean conflict.

Kerns founded the Independent Plant Co. in Maryland and operated a similar business in Elyria for many years as a wholesale plant salesman. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, caring for his dogs and spending time with his family, especially with his late wife of 50 years, Edith, who died in October.

Survivors include his grandson, Ken ''Kenny Joe'' Gordon of Lorain; granddaughter, Tania Marcono of Lorain; four great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; step-sons, Gerald Gordon of Collins and Kenneth Gordon of Pennsylvania.; four nephews; one niece; one uncle. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith (nee Jordan); sister, Inez ''Mae'' O'Brien; his step-son Rev. James Gordon; and his parents Charles and Clara (nee Swiger) Kerns.

Friends may call Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Rd., Sheffield Township, where services will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Chuck Keessee, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Elyria, will officiate. Burial to follow in North Murray Ridge Cemetery, Elyria. Military Honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans, Post 20, of Lorain.
