Notes for Mrs. Angie [Smith]
Craig Snyder,
I have been researching my husbands heritage and came across your notes on the white family, can you tell me how you are related? Amby white and Alice Columbia Carr were my husbands great grandparents, his grandmother was their daughter Fronia White, she had children by James Monroe Hoover, listed: Mary, May, Holbert, Hansford and Lilah (my husbands mother) do you know any of these children by fronia, of which all are now deceased?
fronia as we know was married 3 times, James Monroe, Ben Nelson and last known by which name she was buried jay thorne. There are conflicting dates as to her date of birth some say june 18,1888, but I took a picture in 2002 of her headstone and it states march 12,1891, she is buried in white cemetary in Wymer, W.V. at middle mtn. along with several other family members including my husbands mother who died in 1946 when he was just 5 yrs. old. we will be visiting again in 2 weeks to hopefully get more family info., we live in Georgia. If you can help me with any info. you have, I can help you with what I know. My husband was born 10/18/1941 Robert Lee Hoover s/o Lilah Hoover, d/o James Monroe Hoover and Fronia White.

White Family

letter 2
Great to hear from someone who is still living! Do you know Amby's grandchildren, Alice Faye, Linda and Stoney ? We usually talk to Faye each summer, her and her husband live in baltimore, and Stoney lives somewhere in West Virginia in or abt. Fairmount.
Their father was ZanCorda He went by Cody and was sheriff of Davis for several years. Sorry if I sound ignorant, but in your letter, are you stating it makes you and my husband cousins? This stuff is mind boggling to me and I sometimes have to read it more than once. How do you go about figuring all this out, like I said I'm new at this, if you can or wish, tell me how you do a data base, as of right now I have abt. 100 sheets of paper w/info. in a folder, and God forbid I loose it, I would have a fit. Just let me know if there are particular gravesites you want or maybe something at the court house, we plan on getting a least notes down on all the gravesites at the cemetary, and hopefully pictures of most of them, and yes that is the same cemetary, not quite sure when the spelling changed. We did come across a will of Amby's at the court house, but at the time did not think abt. getting it or other articles related to the family, due to the excitment of trying to find my mother-in-laws grave-site (Lilah Hoover) my husband is just 1 of Lilah's 4 children, she passed away 10 days after his 5th birthday in 1946, Fronia(Grandmother) had always pretty much raised them even before her death, but had sole custody until her death at which time the boys (Robert & Marshal) were sent to the childrens home, Catherine went to live with their Aunt Mary (d/o Fronia) and Helen (2yrs. old) went to live with her father, Earl Cosner. Robert, Marshal, and Catherine's father, Leslie Smith did not want them. Off the subject, what area of Wash. state do you live, I lived there as a kid from the middle 70's to 1983 in Olyimpia. Thank you again for your letter and like I said if you want pictures or paperwork let me know, we wil be leaving Aug. 7.

P.S. I am not sure if I told you previously, my husband, Robert Lee Hoover was given his mothers maiden name at birth and so is his birth cert. but when he was old enough to leave the orphange he went to Baltimore to find his father so he could enlist in the army, without a birth cert. his father swore under oath he was his son and thus enlisted as Robert L. Smith.
