179Mrs. Sophrona Pennington, wife of John Pennington of Fork Mountain, near here, died at her home yesterday afternoon about 2:30 o'clock of rheumatism from which she had suffered the past ten years. At times she seemed to improve but recently was confined to her bed constantly and during the past week was unable to take nourishment of any kind. She was 68 years old.
Mrs. Pennington was born in Calhoun County, January 18, 1865, a daughter of Hugh and Louise Collett. With her parents she moved to Tucker County when but twelve years of age and had resided here at Hambleton ever since.
On December 11, 1894, she was united in marriage to John Pennington and to this union thirteen children were born of whom, with their father, four survive as follows: Perry and Ira, of Parson; Payton and Elsie, at home. Desceased is also survived by the following brothers and sisters; Jeff Collett and Mrs. Florence Ruckman, of Hambleton: Pleas Collett, Elkins; Perry Collett, Akron. Several grandchildren and a number of more distant relatives also survive.
Mrs. Pennington was affiliated with the Baptist church. Funeral services will be conducted at the late home on Fork Mountain tomorrow afternoon with the Rev. A. B. Withers, of the Baptist church, and Rev. B. O. Lucke, of the Presbyterian church, officiating Interment will be made in the city cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Minear Funeral home in Parsons this afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Harold D. Shiflet, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church for John Pennington, 84, of Fork Mountain, who died Tuesday at 7:00 a. m. he had suffered a stroke last fall and had been in ill health since that time.
He was born in Randolph County, October 5, 1861, a son of the late Vincent and Martha Johnson Pennington. He was married to the former Sophiona Collett who died several years ago. They were parents of thirteen children, three of whom are still living.
Those surviving are Perry Pennington, Pearisburg, Va; Ira Pennington, Morgantown and Mrs. Elsie Young of Fork Mountain.
Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Pennington of Blackman Flats, and William Pennington of Hambleton; also one sister, Mrs. Martha Fridley of Ridgley, 22 grandchildren.
Mr. Pennington was a member of the Dunkard Church.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of Minears in Parsons with interment in the Parsons Cemetery.
