The
Rev. Floyd Adam Carr, 88, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Thursday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2008, at Hendricks, at the home of his granddaughter, Rebecca Booth. Death was attributed to cardiac arrest.

He was born Sunday, Sept. 7, 1919, at Gladwin, a son of the late Oliver Homer Carr and Louisa Virginia Carr Carr.

On Jan. 24, 1939, at Hendricks, he was married to the former Betty Jo Ketterman, who preceded him in death Feb. 19, 2004. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd Lowell Carr and wife, Virginia, of Hendricks and Alfred L. “Tim” Carr and wife, Janet, of Montrose; one daughter, Sueann Pittman and husband, Frank, of Parsons; seven grandchildren, Kathy Jo Hoffner, Rebecca Booth, Vicki Mowery, John Pittman, Tara Pittman, Timothy Paul Carr and Floyd Mahlon Carr; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by six brothers, the Rev. Warren Carr, Glenn Carr, Robert Carr, Pete Carr, Sturley Carr and Hobert Carr; and seven sisters, the Rev. Lily Plaughter, Nellie Jenkins, Mary Carr, Hazel Carr, Retha White, Dovie Johnson and Margie Long.

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He worked for 30 years on the Western Maryland Railroad and Republic Steel in Canton, Ohio.

He was saved in 1946 and began his ministering in 1954. He became an ordained minister and was licensed in 1955. He taught teen and adult Sunday school classes and was the assistant pastor to his sister, the Rev. Lily Plaughter, until her retirement in 1988.

He was respected and well known in the Pentecostal Church and throughout the community. He was the mentor and stability to his family and his church family. He was very proud of his church, which was started by his sister in 1939, and it has always been known for its outstanding music. The Rev. Carr and his wife were on Christian channel six with the Pentecostal Time program, which he was very proud of.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Paul Lusk, the Rev. John Means and Pastor Michael Fulton will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for the Rev.
