Elsie M. Snyder
Elsie Mae Collett Snyder, 97, a resident of Elkins and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Saturday morning, April 1, 2006, in the center. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, Jan. 30, 1909, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late Emmett Collett and Stella Elizabeth Smith Collett Isner.
On Sept. 12, 1929, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Herbert Washington Snyder, who preceded her in death April 25, 1973. He was one of the first patrolmen for the Elkins Police Department.
Surviving are one brother, Ed Isner of San Diego, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are six sisters, Clara Smith, Nellie Stalnaker, Evangeline Bailey, Catherine Rigdon, Allene Collett and Marie Wilburn.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a former employee of the West Virginia Children’s Home at Elkins from which she retired, was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church at Cumberland, Md. and attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Tuesday, April 4, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Leon Hevener will officiate and interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Elsie Mae Collett Snyder.
