Notes for David Porter Willis
Hi,
I notice that you seem to keep your on-line info up to date and would like to contribute a couple of bits of info for William Plunkett Willis my 4th great grandfather and if the quote in your data refers to you then William would also be your 4th great grandfather. FIRST comment: the birth date is still being documented since early info was based on an entry in the St. Paul's Parish Register in the King George County VA clerk's office which reads " b-William, son of Joan Willis, Feb. 22, 1742/43". After a very careful examination of the original document ; it is "Joan" not John as reported for these many years. Also his age using this birthdate doesn't fit with him being of age to witness various documents we have seen his signature on i.e. his father's will he is listed as an executor in 1761and he was accepted by the court and bonded in 1762 therefore had to have been 21 or over for this to have happened. But all of this may be too much info about my research into this fact. SECOND comment , William's land grants (I have copies of them) were all over KY and eventually he gave these to each of his children. I used these documents to support the names of his children and their spouses. The William family (William and his wife and children) all moved from Culpeper VA to Adair County KY and are listed on tax records there until his move to Boone County, KY which as we native Kentuckians know is on the Ohio river near Cincinnati and is not near Boonesboro down in Madison County, KY. If you are interested in other interesting facts regarding William Plunkett Willis I would be delighted to share with you. Incidentally Bullettsburg is the name of the small Baptist church in which William and his wife are buried along with several of their children and it is also in Boone County,KY.
I have been researching my Willis family since the early 1960's and have spent many hours in the Ky archives in Frankfort and try constantly to go to the original document for my source. In this internet age I have seen some real messes created by people just copying data from other internet sites without regard to FACTS. I hope you will use the information I have provided to it's proper use. Thanks,
David Porter Willis
