Edna Summerfield Fox Jordan, 97, a former resident of Parsons, and for the past five years she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Rada and Robert Roy at Elkins, departed this life Sunday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2005, at her home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, Aug. 3, 1907, at Hambleton, a daughter of the late Alexander “Alex” and Laura June Phillips Summerfield.
She was twice married, first to Henry H. Fox during 1944, and second to Sampson Jordan. Both preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Charles Fox of Elkins; three daughters, Rada Roy and husband, Robert, and Pearl Jordan Mick, all of Elkins and Jean Jordan Hart of Morgantown; three sisters, Rita Bennett, Nellie Lewis and Bess Tuesing, all of Hambleton; seven grandchildren, Richard Dumire of Elkins, Janet Canfield of Montrose, Ella Mae Dumire of Wilmington, Del., Gloria Fox of Parsons, Butch Fox of Elkins, Pam Fox Bonner of Hambleton and Loretta Lawson of Maryland; 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sons, Robert Leon Fox and Harold Harrison Fox; two brothers, Harry and Don Summerfield; and one sister, Margaret Summerfield.
She attended the one-room school at Fork Mountain, and was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Hambleton. She loved her garden, and enjoyed life with a smile even during hardships, she never complained about anything.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conduced at the funeral home parlor Thursday at 11 a.m. Pastor Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Sunrise Cemetery at Hambleton.
