Guy Vandevender celebrates 100 years with open house Nov. 11
Friends and relatives are invited to attend an open house in celebration of Guy Vandevender 100th birthday Nov. 11 from 1-4 p.m. at the Faith Tabernacle Church at 2502, 16th Avenue in Lewiston.
Guy was born Nov. 3, 1906 in Dry Fork, West Virginia. The family soon moved to the Orofino and Fraser area. He married Pauline Ball. They later divorced. In 1948 he married Ellen Wells at Lewiston.
He was a sawyer in many saw mils throughout the northwest, and retired in 1972, after 20 years with L. Cardiff Lumber Co. of Pierce.
He was a resident of Weippe for many years and also served on the city council. He and Ellen also lived in Winchester for a short time, where he also served on the city council.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, black powder events, and all outdoor activities. Guy has one son, one step-daughter, and many grand, great grand, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
One son, one daughter, and one step daughter are deceased.

100 Years
Former Weippe resident, Guy Vandevender, will be turning 100 years old November 3. Guy and his wife, Ellen (Johnson), raised their children, Eleanor (Mehl) and the late, Linda (Wells) Borders-White in Weippe. All the Weippe old timers know him as Guy Van.
Guy Van and Ellen owned and operated the Horseshoe Bar in Kamiah. They moved to Winchester about1977, returning to Weippe sometime around 1993 where they resided for a few more years before moving off the hill again. They now reside in Lewiston which is more convenient for medical treatment.
Some may remember that Ellen and her deceased husband, Leonard Wells, owned the Red Top in Weippe. The old Red Top building is now the residence of Tim and Jeannie Heywood.
Confirmation has been received from Rockefeller Plaza, NY that Grandpa Vandevender will be featured on Willard Scott's “Smuckers Birthday Announcements” on the TODAY SHOW on Nov. 2 at approximately 10 a.m.
The family is hosting a grand birthday celebration at Faith Tabernacle in Lewiston Nov. 11 and extends an invitation to all to join them.
Guy still enjoys a few daily strolls with their poodle, Missy. His family is extremely proud to say, “Grandfather is still active, living independently and about to celebrate his 100th birthday!”
This announcement was sent by, in her own words, “Proud grand-daughter, Cathi Lane of Caldwell, ID.” You may call her at 208-455-2199, for more information.
These two story were in the November 3rd issue of the Clearwater Tribune from Orofino, Idaho. I believe Guy was the son of Walter Vandevender and Betty Alice Bonner.
