Bob Bortner
Leaves For Fresno
Leaving last Friday for Fresno, California, Bob Bortner, valedictorian and Rotary Achievement Award Winner of the Class of 42½, began his s aviation cadet training. His first eight weeks will be spent in physical or basic training after which he will go through flying school and eight months of study and training after which will fit him to become a second lieutenant in the Air Corps and perhaps fulfill his ambition to become a bomber pilot.
“If I can do half as well as my brother has done, I'll feel lucky," he remarked, "he's flying the Martin D-26 medium bomber."
Lt. Henry W. Bortner, his brother, won his wings February 16, with high honors and was given the chance to choose the branch of the Air Corp s he desired.
