Former Jay county school superintendent is dead at Redkey.
Redkey, Ind., May 31 -- Henry Webster Bortner, 80, for many years a resident of Redkey, died at 10 o'clock here Saturday night following a paralysis stroke suffered a week ago.
Mr. Bortner had served as superintendent of schools for Jay county for eight years, was a school teacher for forty years, and was a member of the county school board for several years. He was also cashier of the old Redkey bank for thirteen years and a member of the local Masonic lodge and the Presbyterian church at Portland.
Surviving is one son, Ralph Bortner, cashier of the Caar Canning company of Redkey. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Redkey Methodist church. Burial will take place in Hill Crest cemetery.
