BIOGRAPHY: David was introspective, reclusive, a dreamer, and utterly lacking a sense of humor. He also had a violent temper and was given to fits of rage. He despised farming and was determined to break with family tradition. He at tended Lane University where he met and married his wife Id a. After their marriage, he got a loan from his father, to ok on a partner named Milton Good, and entered the mercantile/grocery business. He left the business in 1888 and the family moved to Abilene, Kansas in 1889. They lived poorly, and returned to Abilene, Kansas in March of 1892. David had only $24.15 in his pocket when they arrived back home.
