James Leonard Cooper, 65, a resident of Frederick, Md., passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004. 
He was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Randolph County, the son of the late Leonard Brown and Velma Loras Teter Cooper. 
Surviving is one brother, Robert L. Cooper, of Belington; two sisters, Velma J. Scearce of Elkins and Lorena M. Hall of Charles Town; two half brothers, Jack Cooper and Phillip Cooper, both of Harman; six half sisters, Bonnie Nelson of Lanesville, Stella Wyatt of Beverly, Shirley Cooper of Elkins, Donna Carter of Coalton, Diane Cousey of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Wendy Cooper of Broadway, Va.
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Cooper was an employee of the Montgomery County school system prior to his retirement. 
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks Lodge No. 684 and the Frederick Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Cooper’s remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins with Elmer Cosner officiating. Interment of the cremains will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for James Leonard Cooper.
