Velma Jane Scearce, 67, a former resident of Harman and a patient in Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, in the nursing home.
She was born Feb. 24, 1939, at Harman, a daughter of the late Linn and Thelma Teater
Cooper.
Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Peters and husband, Randy, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; two grandchildren, Crystal and Daniel Peters both of Winnipeg; three brothers, Bob
Cooper and wife, Florence, of Belington, Jack
Cooper and wife, Lori, of Harman and Phillip
Cooper and Tamela Burns of Harman. Seven sisters, Lorena Hall of Charles Town, Bonnie Nelson and husband, Burley, of Lanesville, Stella Wyatt of Beverly, Diana Causey of Aynor, S.C., Donna Carter and husband, Richard, of Coalton,
Shirley Cooper of Elkins and Wendy
Cooper of Broadway, Va., also survive.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will follow at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Harman Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Randolph County Cancer Support Group, P.O.
