Olive V. Roy, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born Feb. 13, 1915, in Lanesville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Phoebe (White) Carr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Stow “Pop” Roy; one daughter, Betty Jean Roy; three brothers, Edgar Carr, Johnny Simmons and Emmett Carr; three sons-in-law, Buddy Friedland, Jack Lewis and Roy Hartell.
Mrs. Roy was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education where she had worked at the John Humbird Cafeteria. She attended Central Assembly of God Church. Her hobbies included bowling, doll making and ceramics and she loved feeding the birds.
Surviving are three daughters, Wanda M. Lewis, Cumberland, Melva J. Friedland, Cumberland, and Barbara J. Goss and husband Greg, Cumberland; one son, R. Thurl Roy and wife Carol, Lanesville and Frostproof, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, J. Michael Lewis and wife Ruth, Corbin, Ky., Dena J. Bowman and husband David, Falling Waters, Jackie L. Boylan and husband Scott, Bittinger, Greg Lewis and wife Donna, Cumberland, Lisa Varndell and husband George, Grantsville, Beth Thompson and husband David, Cumberland, David Friedland and wife Michell, Pittsburgh, Pa., Holli Friedland, Baltimore, Mark Roy, Cross Junction, Va., Chad Roy and wife Brandy, Gerrardstown, W.Va., Tracy Crowell, Mount Savage, Greg Goss Jr. and wife Melanie, Cumberland, and Staci M. Goss, Hagerstown; 27 great-grandchildren, Sara Lewis, Chris Lewis, Kevin, Emily and Melissa O’Donnell, Brandon, Scott and Seth Thompson, Heather, Jacob, Sarah and Ben Friedland, Natalie and Cody Roy, Blake Roy, Courtney Case and Colby Cline, Ashley and Danny Boylan, Shawn and Christina Lewis and Addie and Georgie Varndell, Timmy and Matt Roy and Sarah and Sammy Crowell; two great-great-grandchildren, Alex Case and Sydney Lewis; two brothers, Carl V. Carr and wife Rosalita, Hopewell, Va., and Lewis D. Carr, Lanesville; special nephew, Ronald Carr and wife Evelyn, LaVale; her loving and faithful companion, her cat Misty; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (scarpellifh.com) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at noon with Pastor Mark C. Dill and Pastor Larry Green officiating.
Interment will be in Buena Cemetery, Canaan Valley, W.Va.
