Jacksontown Woman Dies En Route to Visit Injured Kin
Mrs. Mazie Elzenia Thompson, 45, wife of Marvin D. Thompson, resident of U.S. Route 40, east of Jacksontown, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the Ohio Valley General Hospital, Wheeling, W.Va., where her brother Lenzie Flanagan of Hanover, is receiving treatment for injuries suffered a few days ago.
Mrs. Thompson was a passenger in a car driven by a relative, J.P. Grady, 64, with Mrs. Paul Dennis, 44, and all were en route to the hospital to visit Mrs. Thompson's brother, when the car struck the road berm and ran into a steep bank, four miles west of St. Clairsville, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Thompson died of a crushed chest and internal injuries and Mr. Grady and Mrs. Dennis, residents of the Thornville vicinity, were seriously injured. The hospital in Wheeling described Mr. Grady's condition as poor, and said Mrs. Dennis is in fair condition. She suffered a serious back injury.
Mrs. Thompson's brother is recovering from a head injury suffered while in the employ of a construction company at Wheeling.
The Licking County sheriff's office was called into the investigation of the accident when St. Clairsville authorities were unable to identify the car. The identification was made through license plates registered in Newark.
Mrs. Thompson had been a resident of the Jacksontown vicinity 12 years, She was born Aug. 8, 1903, in Dry Fork, W.Va., the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Steward Flanagan.
Surviving are her husband four children: Robert D. Thompson of Amsterdam; Tennyson F. Thompson of near St. Louisville; Mrs. Curtis Spangler of Newark; ,,,

Marvin Dewey Thompson, 60, resident of Route 40, Franklin Township, west of Linville, died suddenly of a heart attack at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at his home.
He suffered a light attack prevoiusly, but his condition was not regarded as serious. He apparently was in his usual health Friday at his work as a welder at the Rockwell-Standard Corp.
A resident of Licking County since 1928, when he settled in Wilkin Corners, nine years later he moved to the location in Route 40, where he owned and operated a service station and restaurant from 1945 to 1951.
Born June 28, 1899, in Big Fork, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Thompson and Mrs. Letitia (Grady) Thompson. His first wife, Mazie E. Thompson died June 4, 1949.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Betty Jane Thompson, two sons and two daughters of his former marriage, Robert D. Thompson of near Amsterdam, Tenneyson F. Thompson of near Buckeye Lake, Mrs. Rosalea Gockenbach of Hebron, and Mrs. Josephine Coon, east of Amsterdam; also eight grandchildren; his mother, resident of Lynwood Acres, Franklin Township; four brothers, Harry, Fay, Roy and Neil Thompson, all of Newark; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Schulick of Oakmont, Pa.; Mrs. Margie Mick of Vanatta; Mrs. Eva Kearns of Lovers Lane Rd.; Mrs. Mabel Blythe of Lynwood Acres. A brother is deceased.
A member of Calvary Faith Tabernacle, he was also a former superintendent of the Sunday School; also a member of the Masonic Order of Brownsville; Jacksontown Grange; and Carpenters Local.
The Rev. Marvin L. Welch will officiate at services at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel in Criss Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery.
