1006Shirley Woodrow Carr, 90, a resident of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away Feb. 6, in Beacon Shores Nursing Home in Virginia Beach, Va.
He was born July 6, 1915 at Hendricks, a son of the late Delbert Howell Carr and Louiessa Carr.  He grew up in Thomas where he attended Thomas grade and high schools.  He graduated in 1934.  In 1936, he was married to Mildred Vengen Carr who resides at Marion Manor, Virginia Beach, Va. 
Shirley served in the U.s. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.  He then attended Marshall University.  He was an agent for Peoples Life Insurance company until he retired.  As a young man Shirley was a boy scout leader and Sunday school teacher.  He was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk where he and his wife Mildred prepared communion for 40+ years.  Shirley and Mildred established a scholarship fund in memory of his father and grandfather through the Tucker Community Endowment Foundation which continues to grant scholarships to local students for the continuation of their education. He and Mildred established an alumni endowment with the WV University Foundation in memory of Enos, Delbert, Shirley and Mildred Carr.  
He is survived by his wife Mildred of Virginia Beach and a niece Melanie Harman. 
He was preceded in death by his three sisters Rosemarie Carr, Lorraine Carr and Jeanaleah Seibel. 
Visitation is Feb. 10, at the Hinkle Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Faulter officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas, Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to Tucker community Endowment foundation, PO box 419, Parsons WV  26287 or to West Virginia University Foundation, PO Box 1650, Morgantown, WV  26507.
