"John H. Harman Dead
The subject of this sketch was born in Pendleton Co., Jan. 22, 1834, and died Jan. 11, 1916, age 81 years, 11 months and 19 days.
In early life he married Miss Mary Ritchie. To this union were born six children, two of whom preceded him to the spirit world years ago. Those living are Mrs. A. M. Horn, of Augusta Co., Va.; Mrs. J. M. Armstrong, Mrs. A. V. Kiser and Jno. S. Harman, of Alaska, Mineral Co. His excellent and devoted companion is in failing health with little hopes of her recovery.
Mr. Harman in early life engaged in the mercantile business for a number of years and was very successful, after which he turned his attention to farming and stock raising which also proved successful.
About 10 or 12 years ago in his declining years he found it necessary to give up the farm which he owned in the South Branch Valley at Upper Tract, and he and his companion retired and lived for a few years in the little village at Upper Tract. Seemingly not contented away from the farm and away from his children, to whom he was so much devoted, he came down to Mineral county six or eight years ago and located on a beautiful farm near Alaska, where he could spend the remaining years of his life pleasantly and near his children.
Mr. Harman was a kind hearted christian man, always ready to aid those who were in need, a loving companion to his wife and devoted father to his children.
Rev. H. E. Richarson, of the U. B. church, conducted the services in the presence of a large congregation of friends and relatives, after which the remains were laid to rest in the little cemetery in the rear of Euseba church on the eastern hillside overlooking the beautiful and picturesque valley of Pattersons Creek.
The pallbearers were: Active-J. M. Armstrong, A. M. Horn, J. S. Harman, J. Wm. Harman, D. M. Harman and A. V. Kiser. Honorary-Chas. Harman, Chas. Kiser, Clement Armstrong, Herbert Armstrong, Samuel Harman and Byron Kiser.
