Burns Andrew Applegate, born 17 Aug 1907 in the Grant Magisterial District of Monongalia County, West Virginia, was the son of Hudson Barth Applegate and Margaret Cordelia Burns.
Burns joined the US Army Cavalry in his youth, training at Fort Francis E Warren near Cheyene, Wyoming. A veteran of World War II, Burns also served during the Korean War attaining the rank of Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.
Burns was employed as a watchman for the The Works Progress Administration, and as a police officer for the city of San Bernardino, California. Places he lived included West Virginia; Connellsville, Pennsylvania; Fairport Harbor, Ohio; Cheyene, Wyoming; San Pedro, California; San Bernardino, California; and Lomita, California.
