I would surely appreciate the help anyone on this list could provide.

My ancestor, VALENTINE PRENTICE was b. c. 1561 and probably in either
Shalford or Felsted. He married
MARY/MARIE LUKE, a "widdow" in Felsted on 15 Jan 1586. I just learned
that she died in Feb 1627/8 and is buried at Black Notley. Black Notley
lies about 1 mile south of Braintree, about 4 miles east of Felsted, and
perhaps 7 miles NNE of Chelmsford.

I don't know her maiden surname or her date or place of birth. I'm
guessing that she was probably b. c. 1561, give or take 5 years, and I'm
guessing that since was buried at Black Notley she may have been born
there, married there to her 1st husband, and/or may have had children
from her earlier marriage who might be buried there.

I'd surely appreciate it if someone could look in the Essex marriages
reference book (I think it is called Boyd's marriages) for a marriage of
a Mary/Marie (surname unknown) to a man surnamed Luke about 1575-85 and
in or near Black Notley, Braintree, or Felsted.

Once we have 1 or more marriages to check out, I can then start checking
records for his death, for possible children of that marriage, and the
identities of her parents.
