Mrs. Martha S. Bennett, 79, widow of Harman Bennett, died April 16 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ray Getz, Brandywine.
Born in Circleville, she was a daughter of the late Isaac J. and Eliza A. (Jordan) Nelson. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Brandywine Church of the Brethren.
Surviving, besides Mrs. Getz, are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Troutman, Cumberland and Mrs. Charles Crummett, Sugar Grove; seven sons, Rev. I. L. Bennett, Ruckersville, Va.; Rev. V. L. Bennett, Elkins; J. M. Bennett, Wyoming, Del.; A. H. and Denver Bennett, both of Brandywine; A. Jay Bennett, Columbus, Ohio, and Orville Bennett, Clarksburg; a sister, Mrs. Roxie Mallow, Circleville, 26 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Services and interment took place Tuesday in Brandywine.

Notes for ISAAC LEE BENNETT:
The Rev. Isaac Lee Bennett, 79, of Ruckersville, Va., and former superintendent of Pendleton County Schools, died unexpectedly in his sleep last Saturday at 1 a. m. at his home.
Mr. Bennett spent most of his life in the dual fields of ministry and education. He began teaching in the public schools of Pendleton County in 1912 and served as superintendent of Pendleton County schools 1931 to 1949.
He was a minister in the Church of the Brethren and served the following pastorates: Smith Creel Church of the Brethren 1917-1925; Crummett's Run Church of the Brethren 1925-1950; East Mount Carmel Church of the Brethren, Ruckersville, Va. 1950-1971. Other churches served while at Ruckersville were Cedar Grove, Knight's Chapel, Mt. Lebanon and Pineridge.
He served 54 years in the ministry and when he preached his farewell sermon at East Mount Carmel on August 22, 1971 he was honored   at a luncheon and presented with an inscribed plaque by the Church.
Mr. Bennett attended Lutheran College, Petersburg, Va., University of Virginia and graduated from Bridgewater College with a BA degree in 1925.
He was born on Timber Ridge, October 7, 1892, and was a son of Harmon and Martha Susan Nelson Bennett.
He was twice married. His first wife was the former Nettie Waggy who preceded him in death in 1918, and his second wife was Lottie Wyant Bennett, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Martha Miller of Woodstown, N. J., and Mrs. Lorine Harris of Ruckersville; two sons, Paul Bennett of Pensacola, Fla., and Emery Bennett of Rupert; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza R. Crummett of Moyers, Mrs. Evelyn Getz of Brandywine; five brothers, J. M. Bennett of Wyoming, Del., Rev. V. L. Bennett of Elkins. A. H. Bennett and Denver Bennett of Brandywine, A. J. Bennett of Columbus, Ohio, and   Orville E. Bennett of Elkins; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and a brother.
A funeral service was conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove Church of the Rev. Andrew Yelton and the Rev. Max Green, and interment was in the Holly Memorial Cemetery near Ruckersville.

Eliza Roxie Crummett, 90, of Sugar Grove died August 13, 1994, while visiting her family in Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Crummett was born December 14, 1903, in Circleville and was a daughter of the late Harman and Martha Nelson Bennett.
Her husband, Charlie Crummett, died November 13, 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Martha Hottle an Mary Rose Worley, both of Alexandria, VA; three sons, Ernest R. Crummett of Hooversville, PA, Charlie H. Crummett of Hillard, OH, and Galen M. Crummett of Sugar Grove; one sister, Evelyn Getz of Brandywine; one brother, Denver Bennett of Brandywine; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Argil Troutman.
The Rev. Mason Cooper conducted the funeral at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Crummett Run Church of the Brethren. Burial was in the Crummett Run Cemetery by Obaugh Funeral Home.

Evelyn Getz, 99, of Brandywine, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Getz was born March 9, 1908, in Timber Ridge, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Harmon Bennett and Martha Nelson Bennett.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. She attended North Fork one-room schools.
Her husband, Ray C. Getz, preceded her in death June 3, 1991.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Ed and Helen Troutman of Brandywine, her caregivers for many years.
Pastors Patrick Godfrey and Harold Cullers will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren.

Harman Bennett, 79, well known citizen of Brandywine neighborhood, died Sunday evening about 7:45 o'clock at his home there.
Mr. Bennett had been confined to his bed only a few days and his sudden passing came as a shock to both his family and many friends.
A son of the late Elijah and Hannah Bennett, he was born at Cherry Grove on May 12 1871. After his marriage to Miss Mattie Nelson he moved to the Timber Ridge section, where he lived until 1918, moving to a farm two miles east of Brandywine.
Mr. Bennett, a member of the Brethren church, was an unselfish, home loving man who always placed the comforts of others above those of himself.
Besides his wife, he is survived by nine children: Rev. I. L. Bennett, of Ruckersville, Va.; J. M. Bennett Wyoming, Del.; Rev. Lester Bennett and Orville Bennett, of Elkins; Asa H. Bennett and Denver Bennett, of Brandywine; Mrs. Eliza Crummett, of Moyers; Mrs. Evelyn Getz, Cumberland, Md.; and Jay Bennett, Columbus, Ohio.
He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, including Mrs. Argil Troutman, of Cumberland, whom he reared.
Two daughters and a son preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Brandywine Brethren church with Rev. E. A. Lambert, of Cherry Grove.


HARMAN BENNETT was born 12 May 1871, and died 12 Nov 1950 in Pendleton Co., WV.   He married MARTHA S. NELSON Abt. 1892, daughter of ISAAC NELSON and ELIZA JORDAN.   She was born 13 Dec 1875 in Pendleton County, WV, and died 16 Apr 1955.
